40th Anniversary Celebrations

We celebrated our 40th Anniversary in grand style on 20th May 2009. On arrival we were greeted by our smiling scribe of the day, Garry Glover, who issued our score cards and presented us with a box of three anniversary golf balls.

After playing our 11-hole Stableford competition in which some made better use than others of our new celebration golf balls, we indulged ourselves at the Halfway House with Nilly’s lovely fare, served in her inimitable and happy way. Nilly had made us a lovely cake topped with a Wag teeing off.

Nilly had made us a lovely cake topped with a Wag teeing off who looked a bit like Garry!

Suitably replete, we made our way back to the clubhouse to have our group photograph taken and continue with the festivities.

The result of the competition was tight and Garry Glover was our worthy winner with an impressive 25 points (not bad over 11 holes with 1 blob!), followed by Graham Robertson with 24 points. Our Captain Denis Palmer presented Garry with a beautiful painting – the work of our artistic Captain.

Speeches were kept to a minimum but, fitting for the occasion our President, George Mummery, rounded off the day with a few well chosen words

A very successful day and a great way to celebrate 40 years of the way the Wags play golf, with the accent, as always, on friendship.
