We would be delighted to welcome you - why not join us?

During the year there are twelve major competitions for Wags perpetual trophies. There are also five or six Texas Scrambles, with small prizes for teams with the best scores and a summer knockout competition. Although new members are welcome to play in competitions, they are not entitled to win a trophy unless they have played at least six times on non-competition Wags days.
We hold two formal social events each year. The Ladies' Luncheon, when we wine and dine our wives/partners and Club guests, and the Annual Dinner, a black tie event, when the trophies are presented and the next year's Wags Captain is announced. At various times during the year we conclude a competition with an informal late lunch. And, of course, every Wednesday we gather for coffee before playing golf and afterwards have tea, or something a little stronger, before going our separate ways.
Apart from match days, we usually have sole use of the first tee from 10.30am to 12 noon on Wednesdays, and we assemble for coffee at around 9.30am, where a draw for partners and starting order takes place. Play is ideally four-ball better-ball match play with the odd two- and 3-ball depending on numbers, and at the end of the round we adjourn to the lounge for refreshments. See our Fixture list for all events.
Matches are played home and away, against six local clubs who provide teams of similar standard, with no handicap restriction. These matches are played in a spirit of friendly competitiveness, and are followed by a formal lunch. All Wags are invited to make themselves available for matches and although it is not guaranteed, when making a selection for the away match the Captain tries to include those who have played in the home match.
The Wags welcomes new members whatever their handicap
As stated in the Sandy Lodge Centenary book, the Wags is a Section of Sandy Lodge Golf Club, formed in 1969 to provide a friendly environment for social and competitive golf, where all are made welcome. With around sixty members, the only qualification is the ability to play golf on a Wednesday morning. At present we have players of all standards, from single figure handicaps to 28. We pride ourselves on the friendly and relaxed atmosphere and strive to uphold the traditions that have made Sandy Lodge the Club that it is today.
